In 1871 Twenty local Brothers belonging to various lodges petitioned to charter a lodge in East Hampton. The petition was accepted and the name they chose was Anchor No.112. The Brothers chose the name as it was suggested by one of the Masonic symbols, "the anchor, which shall safely moor us in a peaceful harbor where the wicked shall cease from trembling and the weary shall rest." |
