In 1871, Twenty local Brothers belonging to various lodges petitioned the Grand Lodge of Connecticut for a dispensation to institute a new lodge in the town of East Hampton. The petition was accepted and the lodge was chartered as Anchor #112. The Brothers chose the Anchor as it was suggested by one of the eight monitorial symbols of Masonry;The anchor, “which shall safely moor us in a peaceful harbor where the wicked shall cease from trembling and the weary shall rest”
